BACK TO THE FUTURE!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

There is a new electronic movement on the horizon, and it has its headquarters in Nantes, France. Heading this movement are artists such as Minitel Rose, The Outrunners, College, Maethelvin and a handful others. The music is inspired as much by visual sources as musical once. The latter sources being the music of pioneers such as Jan Hammer, Giorgio Moroder and Vangelis. But also the visual styles of the movies and TV shows they scored. Listening to the music such classics as Blade Runner, Miami Vice and The Wraith come to mind.

Also featured in this post is a track by Futurecop! which is a british group, but it feels like it belongs in this movement I just made up.

The Outrunners - Cool Feeling

College - Can You Kiss Me First

Minitel Rose - Valerie Cote Ouest

Maethelvin - Lost In Big City

Futurecop! - Transformers

Bonus: Some Minitel Rose Re-Works

Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall (Minitel Rose Remix)

The Kinks - Sunny Afternoon (Minitel Rose Remix)

and the awesome trailer for the awesome The Wraith

ITALO DISCHO

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I mentioned both Fawzia and Funky family in the Glass Candy post. And since these tracks are so great I thought I´d share. This first track by Fawzia is from ´86 and produced by Oderso Rubini the man behind many Italo anthems of the 80´s. The track is kind of a ballad, but it features an extremely heavy goose bumps inducing bridge and synth in the chorus. I couldn´t find out much about the artist herself though, except she also had some releases under the name Fawsia Selama. If anybody has anything else to offer from her please do so by dropping a comment.

This next track by Funky Family features great vocals from Dora Carofiglio best known under the pseudonym Valerie Dore known to many as the queen of Italo Disco. She lent her voice to many classic Italo tracks and sang in the infamous music family Nicolosi (who discovered her at the age of 22). Funky Is On is a beautiful track with a chorus out of this world. Enjoy.

Both tracks featured here are taken from the double CD compilation entitled Confuzed Disco, which features these original tracks on one disc and remixes by names like Franz & Shape, Lindstøm, Kiki and Munk on the second disc. Buy it here.

FLASHY PRETTY GIRL

Hypnolove is one of the best (in my opinion) pop groups to come out of France in a while. The duo´s sound is very poppy and catchy mixed with electro and new wave. Their lyrics are in French, English and German and featured on the fantastic self titled debut album is also a cover of Kiss´ immortal "I Was Made For Loving you" (turned into a ballad no less). The album came out last year and you can and should buy it here, or somewhere else.

The track featured here is (again) in my opinion the best and most catchy track on the album. Listen for the sax breakdown and dream yourself into a Miami Vice love scene... Ahhh. It´s in m4a format, because that´s all I have... sorry.

Glass Candy is an east-coast based duo with a fresh and titillating sound. It brings thoughts to the slower stuff Miss Kittin did with the hacker, but also to the heavenly experimental pop of Visage and such italo acts as Funky Family, My Mine and Fawzia. Their home is the great lable Italians Do It Better which also is home to the likes of Professor Genius and Chromatics. They are mini touring the States at the moment so check them out if you find yourself there for some reason.

TELL ME THAT I´M DREAMIN´

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Time for some disco freshness... This track I heard many times, but it didn´t really sink in until i heard it on the October addition of Fabriclive. 36 all mixed together by the beautiful James Murphy and Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem fame. It´s a great mix full of ol´ time disco bangers and current electronic cock arouseers. So spend some money on it, if anyone deserves your money it´s these wonderful people.

SEXUAL HEALING

I don´t know much about the guy who did this remix, except he´s 20, male, white, rad, from Phoenix, Arizona and calls himself Mercurius FM and did a funky edit of the loved classic. I found it over at Palms Out Sounds, so peep it out...

MAYBE IT´S THE SHEEP THAT´S BEEN TELLING ME LIES

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This track by Ed Banger affiliate Vicarious Bliss first came to my attention back in 2005 when it was featured on Dave Clarke´s double mix CD "World Service 2". This was also my first meeting with Ed Banger and a relationship was formed then and has grown considerably since, as I´m sure it has for all of you.

Anyways the track is awesome, and has the greatest lyrics I have ever heard. The featured track is a remix though, done by label mates Justice, who I´m sure need no introduction. If you´ve never heard this track before your in for a real treat.

I don´t think I´ve ever heard the original. So if anyone has it please drop a link or something to it in the comment section.

IT´S THE DYNAMIC DUO

Time to toot my own horn. Dynamic Duo is based in Oslo, Norway and is made up of Stanley Steel and Chevy Chaser. The track is a B-More version of the classic The Clash track "Should I Stay or Should I Go". So enjoy...

SPACE DISCO

This is a deep and catchy techno track made by the not too known British artist Carl Taylor. It was featured on Felix Da Housecat´s 2003 A Bugged Out Mix. The track was released on Bugged Out and was probably featured in the mix because of that. No matter, the track is a banger and deserves to be heard.

PAIN

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I was a big 2Pac fan back in the day, but I kind of grew out of my obsession over the years. However I rediscovered this track a few years ago and it has stuck with me. It features Big Syke of Thug Life fame. The track originally appeared on the film Above The Rim soundtrack CD single for Warren G´s "Regulate" but was not on the official soundtrack for some reason.

The track is the kind that gives you goosebumps (at least it gives ´em to me), and is (according to some guy on youtube) "the realest shit Pac ever wrote". So There.

DJ Deeon is the Chicago king of ghetto tech we all know and love. His landmark releases include Shake What Your Mamma Gave Ya and Gimme Hed. This track is taken from the E.P. by the same name that came out on Pro-Jex in 2001.

The track is a banger that lives up to its name... and then some...

FLETCH

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The greatest movies ever are Fletch and Fletch Lives both starring the best comedic actor to ever grace this earth Chevy Chase. His performance as the investigative journalist that "changes his identity more often than he changes his underwear" is memorable to say the least. As is the fantastic theme delivered by 80´s hot-film-composer-shit Harold Faltermeyer. The Germany native scored such classic and brilliant films as Beverly Hills Cop (Axel F!!), Top Gun, The Running Man, Tango & Cash and (of course) Kuffs. The track featured here is the theme for the Fletch series and sounds a bit like Axel F, but is even more catchy in my book.

Enjoy!

THINGS U DO

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Sweden is a nice place to find musical talent at the moment (if you´re looking). And the people at La Vida Locash deserve a lot of the kudos for this.

From this camp hails Kocky, a singer who is part Chicago jack part Pop Goodness. This is my favorite tune from the album Kingdom Came which is available over at itunes right now. Cop it...

TWINZZZZZ

I was digging in the mp3 crates and came upon this blast from the past. The Twinz were close affiliates of Warren G and the 1996 album Conversation was produced (almost) solely by the G-Funkster, as were these awsome tunes. So kick back, blaze up a phat sack and bump some of that funk shit. East Side LB Style!

MANIAC!!

Flashdance is no doubt one of the best films of the 80´s. And Michael Sembello´s track "Maniac" pretty much defined the dancefloors of that period in time. According to Sembello himself the track was originally conceived as a country western song, and Stevie Wonder convinced him (thank god!) to make it into a pop song. And now the amazing Italian electro duo The Bloody Beetroots have updated it ever so slightly to define the dancefloors of the late 00´s. It´s a killer track that makes you wanna stand and run in place.

HOLY HAIL

Holy Hail is a New York based indie band that sounds very 80´s, which I like. The track sounds a lot like an update of Blondie´s "Rapture" and is very fun. They are currently on a European tour, check their website to see if they´ll be coming to a city near you.
